ioGenetics was created in 2000 by spin-out from its sister company Gala
Design Inc. (Now Catalent Inc.) The two companies are separate entities with different ownership. The underlying technology originated in the laboratory of Dr. Robert Bremel at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

In 2003 ioGenetics established facilities in the Tec Incubator in Madison, Wisconsin near the Dane County airport.
